Kristallnacht: A Dramatic Commemoration

TULSA, Okla. — Kristallnacht is a commemoration of the 1938 Night of Broken Glass,
when Nazi Germany declared war against German and Austrian Jews. The riots that
ensued, destroyed synagogues, Jewish businesses and homes creating terror and fear.
As part of the Nazi strategy, The Nurenberg laws were enacted to strip Jews of their
German citizenship, confiscate properties and deny them any participation in public
affairs. This was just the beginning of the Holocaust.

The Tulsa Council for Holocaust Education invites the public to the Annual
Kristallnacht Commemoration on Sunday, November 8 at 2PM at B’nai Emunah. The
address is 1719 South Owasso Avenue, Tulsa Oklahoma.

A dramatic presentation of the book Address Unknown will be performed. The
short novel was published in 1938 by Katherine Pressman Taylor, telling the story of
two German friends and business partners, one Jewish and one Christian through a
series of letters. The letters written during a two-year period from 1932 to 1934 provide
a glimpse into the personal impacts of the rise of the Nazi regime.

The Kristallnacht Commemoration is presented by the Tulsa Council for Holocaust
Education, in partnership with the Tulsa City-County Library, The Sherwin Miller
Museum of Jewish Art, Jewish Federation of Tulsa, Congregation B’nai Emunah, Temple
Israel and Circle Cinema.
